As I said already, my name is Ryan Hollister. I am currently 22 years old and an Electrical and Computer Engineering major with a minor in Computer Sciences at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). I am in the last half of my senior year as of August 2007. I will be completing Worcester Polytechnic Institute's four year bachelor's program in December of 2007. The reason for my extended undergraduate stay is that I participated in WPI's Co-op program which diverted my studies to Hamilton Sundstrand's Propulsions Enterprise Division for 8 months in the fall semester of 2005. While at Hamilton Sundstrand I worked on the real time flight controls for military airplanes such as: C130, E3, NP2000, and A400M.
After completing my stay at Hamilton Sundstrand I returned back to school in the Spring of 2006. The spring semester of 2006 consisted of my completing one term of classes (3 classes for 7 weeks) and then moving to Boston, MA where I completed my IQP (Interactive Qualifying Project) for the Department of Public Works Parks & Open Spaces. For more information about the work that my group completed for Brookline, MA please click here.
While in Boston completing my IQP I was hired to work at Mercury Computer Systems as a Hardware Engineering Co-op. I was very excited about this position because it was the complete opposite to my work at Hamilton Sundstrand. Mercury Computer systems works on the cutting edge of high-speed multicomputer systems. I began working there in May 2006 full time for the summer. My first couple months there were spent designing a test card for an their Ensemble2 system. The design of the card was simple but the process to turn a schematic into an actual PCB was the real learning experience. I learned to use tools like Mentor Graphics DxDesign, Cadence OrCAD, as well as internal tools. After completing this project I began to work closely with other hardware engineers on the PowerStream 6600 in the middle of the design process. More specifically I worked closely with the engineer designing the FPGA Computer Node (FCN). I designed the clock system which required generating and distributing the various clocks required by different components on the board. I also designed the JTAG chain that would be used to debug and program the three Xillinx Virtex-4 FPGAs, EEPROM, power management device, SRAM, and other components on the board. Towards the end of my work there I began working with the Cell Processor group to debug and test the Cell Development Workstation.
For the summer of 2007 I was looking for a job closer to my hometown of Chicopee, MA. I found that job in an exciting company ISO New England. I worked in the operations department and implemented a SharePoint workflow for various business processes. My work is explained in further detail here.
I recently returned from Limerick, Ireland where I was completing my second and final degree requirement known as the Major Qualifying Project. This project lasted for 10 weeks. During those 10 weeks I completed an extensive design and research project with Analog Devices Inc.. I worked in a group of three people to design LabVIEW Virtual Instruments that automated experimentation on their new infrared sensor. Click here for more information about my MQP. |

Active Brother of Phi Gamma Delta, Chicopee, MA
Brother/Treasurer
Elected treasurer and active brother of Phi Gamma Delta. Participated in various
community service projects. Treasurer responsibilities include paying all house bills on
time every month, and managing all finances of a 40 member fraternity and a $120,000
non-profit business.
- Participating in community service events is a rewarding experience that I recently found. This year I have done
numerous community service events that total over 30 hours. In April I participated in the relay for life with my
fraternity and raised $135.
- I am also a huge sports fan and particularly a Red Sox faithful. I only played club soccer at WPI but I had played
soccer, baseball, and basketball through high school. Now I enjoy more leisurely sports like tennis and golf.
- Growing up around cars I couldn't help becoming a car junky. I currently drive a 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP and
my father drives a 2007
Chevy Corvette. Family vacations normally means taking the Corvette and driving to
a car show. Some pictures of my favorite pastime can be found here.
